Since Friday was a holiday, you got the closing price at the end of the day on March 13th ($79.11).

Everyone's transactions are in Google, by the way, if you want to verify anything. Here's Dustie's:

Mar 6, 2009 WFC BUY 11613 shares at $8.61 ($10 commission)
Mar 9, 2009 WFC SELL 11613 shares at $9.97 ($10 commission)
Mar 9, 2009 VFINX BUY 1847 shares at $62.65 ($10 commission)
Mar 13, 2009 VFINX SELL 1847 shares at $79.11 ($10 commission)

That order was canceled since I didn't want to appear to be cheating:

Yup.

In retrospect, I probably should have said, if you make a trade BEFORE the market close, you get the price at the END of that day, and if you make a trade AFTER the market close, you get the price at the START of the next day. But I was really trying to discourage too much trading...

Ok, then cancel my sell order and I'll decide before market close on Monday.

Trade: Cancel Sell order!

That post occurred before the end of the day so it should be legit right?

I will take whatever number you want, as no one thinks I'm cheating. I hate cheaters (especially in Monopoly).

I need to get back to that app I was writing to extract and display the info from Google using their API... I'll be in India for work for two weeks in June - I figure that should give me plenty of free time to screw around with the app (and the iPhone app that is going to make me a millionaire...someday...)

Okay, I just pulled $20k out of Dustie's account. Please send me a check for $40,000 ASAP.

But didn't I cancel that? Looking back, it looks like I didn't. Ok, either way, I just want to take the number that will not have anyone claiming I'm a monopoly cheater.

No, I don't think you cancelled the cancel of your cancel. Smile

I wouldn't worry about it, the number would be either 79.11 or 79.72...not a huge difference. Especially compared to the amount we're losing being out of the market right now. Smile

Hoof is penalized for saying anything negative about Dustie.

Done.

Real-Time: More up to date than last trade, which is 20m delayed
Last Trade: The price of the last stock trade (20m delayed at Yahoo, but real time at Google)
Trade Time: The time of Last Trade above
Change: The change since the price of the previous day's close
Prev Close: See above
Open: The price the stock opened at today
Bid: The price that buyers are currently willing to pay (in this case there is a buyer trying to buy 100 shares for $37.72)
Ask: The price that sellers are currently willing to sell at (in this case there is a seller trying to sell 100 shares for $37.73)
1y Target Est: 25.97 The consensus price analysts think the stock will be in a year's time (not really worth paying attention to a lot of the time)
Day's Range: The high and low stock value so far today
52wk Range: The high and low stock value over the past year
Volume: How many shares have traded today (watch for high volume above the average)
Avg Vol (3m): The average number of shares traded daily over the past 3 months
Market Cap: The number of shares outstanding multiplied by the current price - essentially how big the company is. A low market cap for a healthy company can mean it's a good takeover target.
P/E (ttm): The Price/Earnings ratio (price per share divided by net annual earnings per share). A lower value is generally better - high growth companies tend to have a higher P/E (you are paying a premium for future earnings, essentially). This is a "trailing" P/E - based on previously reported earnings. The forward P/E can be more useful - it looks at what the P/E will be based on expected future earnings.
EPS (ttm): The amount of money the company earned divided by the number of outstanding shares. Higher is better! Some companies have a very large number of outstanding shares compared to others.
Div & Yield: If applicable, the $ amount of dividends the company pays per year. The yield is the percentage of the current share price this is. Some companies don't grow very much, in profits or stock price, but have a nice solid dividend you can rely on for income. A lot of high growth companies don't have a dividend.

Hoof, which lines don't you get?

You can use this site:
http://www.investorwords.com

to look up common terms, EPS, PE, Working Capital, Market Capitalization etc

For example: EPS
http://www.investorwords.com/1719/EPS.html

I love talking about this stuff so, if you're serious, I can go into more detail about any of those lines.

Well, since you said you enjoyed talking about this stuff.... /opens can of worms.

Mind going through the 'fundamentals', what they are and how they are used to figure a companies growth/target prices?

Example:

I know for charting, I draw my trend lines, then support/resistance to get the bigger picture or direction of the trades. I then use Patterns (consildation, continuation, candlesticks, etc) and indicators (macd, stocastics, moving averages, bollinger bands, etc etc) to either support (in which case confirming the trend and buying) or hold (waiting for a breakout/confirmation).

How are fundamentals used, in this context, seeing as how this is the way most large firms base thier investment & risk management when it comes to clientel portfolio's?
