If you invested 100k last September, compared to banking 100k last September you would be down about 40%.

Companies that'll do well in inflation....
Find the one's that have already hit bottom and have entered a sideways channel (bouncing off a strong support): AAPL's a good tech example, precious metals, Natural Gas (during upcomming winters, exit just before spring), Infrastructure, and Debt.
I've also heard that we'll want to stay away from any (most) financial institutions until both inflation breaks and the "credit crisis" turns, then jump in.
Things I've heard around the scuttlebutt.

Right, but putting your money in a matress after the stock market hits a 20 year low and our government is printing money like it's candy is totally different then putting your money under a matress last September.

Interesting on Citibank
http://finance.yahoo.com/tech-ticker/art...et-Started
From the Yahoo Message Board on Citibank:
Quote:Ok let me get to the meat of this. I lost the link for tech ticker today but watch that 5 minute video and it will explain to you what C and Bac are doing behind the scenes. First C is with Fury buying all MBS (mortgage based securities) they can get their little hands on for .30 on the dollar. They are then turning around and selling them back to the government for .85c on the dollar. For every Billion C spends it will make around 2.9 billion or a 1.9 billion net profit. So if C buys 100 billion of these they turn a profit of 190 billion dollars net.. YES NET! This in turn will go on the balance sheet for 1st quarter. What do you think will happen when C announces it made a 100 billion dollar profit in 1st quarter??? All hell will brake lose and this stock could trade for 100+ dollars. Now you say boy does the taxpayer take it hard here. Paying inflated prices for MBS's that are worth 1/3 what they paid for them. Oh poor Mr. and Mrs. taxpayer how bad. But here is where everyone is missing it. The government has 3.9 billion shares which they are converting to common shares. I believe this will all happen pre announcement of ernings on the 17th. Now the 17th comes along and C announces it has this huge profit and the stock soars to let's say $50 (panic short covering, etc..) the government because of their stake in C now has almost 200 billion worth of stock and 100 billion of MBS's.. Everyone wins in this scenario. C wins, shareholders win, the taxpayer wins, and Obama and Giethner look like the Messiah because they made Wall St. pay. This is an unbelievable plan that everyone is missing. This will work and I think this is what they have been doing. I believe that is why Pandit came out with R/S to keep the price from skyrocketing too soon. It would look bad if stock went to 50 and the G were allowed to buy for 3.25. I have no inside knowledge but this is what I have pieced together over the past two weeks.. Of course JMHO
Not sure it will go to $50 but it could see a pop. YMMV so do your own due diligence.

That is interesting. 1 Question I have is why o why would these idiots do this? The "toxic assets is what got them into the problem, and now they are (and being allowed) to jump back into the toxic tank?
They have learned nothing, and there is still no regulation preventing a repeat of the greed driven activity.
Having said that, I would agree that Citi and other banks that are jumping into this might very well see a huge jump. Might be worth jumping in, but oh man, it isnt a long position. Get in, Set a target, and get out.
I might play some pvp money but not real people money. What if the governments plan doesn't go forward? Remember we have a schizo congress right now.

i understand the 'score' can't be updated all the time, but dang i wish it was updated today.
the risk associated with politics, unknown balance sheets, derivatives, foriegn accounting, ect; just made them to risky for me to consider. i am rather happy to be in the middle of the pack without any financial stocks.

Interesting that Citi is calling for Puts on all financial stocks (C included) because of the rally since March 6th.
What kind of game is this?

Looks like the Dogs of the Dow strategy is holding pretty strong, even in this economy.

I was anticipating a bear rally with a correction / profit taking. But this is all starting to look like a bull market.

Technically it is a bull market, since we're up over 20%. I think the jobs number today (in about 30m) could send us down a fair bit, though.
