Its comic book excess, Ozymandius was just a world class athelete, the same reason the guys in 300 could do the shit they did.
They did leave out the explanation of Rorschach's mask - "Rorschach's mask (which he refers to as his "face") consisted of a specialized fabric, one that was actually two layers of fabric with viscous black and white fluids trapped between them. The fluids remained in constant motion, being affected by heat and pressure, however the black and white colors never combined to form gray. The patterns formed by the fluids also maintained a constant symmetrical pattern down the midline of whatever shape the fabric had been formed into."
There is a backstory about Kitty Genovese (the woman who was killed in NYC in real life while the neighbors all watched without helping) involving why he started being a vigolante.

These people don't have powers except for manhattan, they are vigilantes. There was a conversation at the beginning with the owl guy and his predecessor that explained where they came from back in the 40s and the plotline between the chick in spandex with her mother. Also the whole opening montage kind of conveyed the history. But yes, the problem is the previews marketed it as a normal super hero film.
That's part of what I loved about the comic... They didn't spoon-feed you that shit, you just had to grab on and hang tight for the ride. The details come through in the story, and it gave the reader a chance to form their own opinions about the characters as you went.
It's ok that I don't understand what is going on with Rorschach's mask... that is part of the fun.

300 they didnt do anything 'super' human really, just stylized and hollywood'ed up a bit.
heavy bronze armor infantry in phalanx > light persian infantry
in reality spartans and greeks would have been insane to break from phalanx formations to do 1v1 fighting

I can see where, at the time, it would have been a Big Deal -- a big break from traditional comic book styles with more intricate, more fully human characters who are really "costumed vigilantes" rather than "superheroes", with human emotions and flaws.
These days, it's practically the norm. Even BSG has Admiral Adama drooling into his oatmeal while crying every other episode. Oh, look how human he is! Bah! You almost have to "break from the Watchman style" if you want to see something different. I dunno how many more stories I can take where the characters are mostly just kinda sad, pathetic and washed up. :-p

It's called Star Trek. =P

Well, Ozymandius did NOT move like that in the comic, that was done for "fluff" in the movie. He WAS a better fighter then the rest, for sure, he could kick all their asses without thinking, but not because he had super powers.
The comic explained where Rorschach got that mask from. It was a special material or something, blah blah. He wasn't doing the changes himself, but it was an item of importance to him, I think a sheet of some sort, which he cut to use as his mask.

So you won't be in line to see the movie based on my life?
It's titled "Sad, Pathetic and Washed Up" conveniently.

That's just because it isn't important, once again the movie is not about their powers.
This isn't your typical superhero movie, it isn't about the powers or the team at all.
Its a who dun it movie cast with an aging vigilante group. Each character is their own person with their own flaws, some greater than others, just like real people

According to the director (Snyder. sp?), he had filmed ALL the scenes in the comic and they will be appearing, in an extended version of the film, on blu-ray which will be over 4 hours long. Will this extended version come out on the regular release date or at a later date? No idea.
It is also said, but I can't confirm, that Snyder said he filmed the original ending of the film, but WB didn't like it, so he made the changes he did. Considering nothing else in the movie impacted the changed ending, this is quite plausable. Will that ending be included in a director's cut or as a deleted scene somewhere? No idea.

I enjoyed the movie, but the ending almost ruined it for me. I had not read the comic or to many spoilers before seeing the movie however. But the ending just seemed out of place and lacking the depth needed to fit with the rest of the movie.
From what I now know of the original ending, it would have been much better. Giving more impact to the turn of events and making the outcome more realistic. Not sure why they changed it. Seeing as it was mostly about the impacts of "cold war" combined with the flaws of human nature. Wasn't building the bomb and blowing a couple of cities sort of what helped lead us into the cold war to begin with? Not sure why people would believe a "new bomb" would end it.
But the characters are great and makes me wish I had read the comic first. I imagine the story line and "who done it" aspect of the story play out much better.
Was the comic itself done through lots of flash backs also?

The point was if humanity thought it was up against Dr. Manhattan it would have to unify against a foe none of them could face. In the comic the foe was just a big alien squid instead of the dr.

Weird that Diggles didnt like the movie. On many occasions he told me how he wanted more movies with lots of CGI penis' in them.
