It amuses me, in an I-am-right-and-Jake-is-wrong sort of way, that when you start talking about good, stoic, solid characters, you're mostly talking about the good old popular classics, or wildly famous movies like Braveheart.
Modern Hollywood writers may have really upped the ante on creating "realistic" characters with full ranges of emotion but it turns out nobody cares about that shit and their movies and shows flop while the classics endure.
