Buying a Straight Razor

I can't stand electric shavers, its like I have 5 o'clock shadow after I shave. I tend to use the Mach 3 blades far past when the color wears off the indicator. They still work fine a few shaves after that. I tend to shave 1-3 times a week, I am lucky with a job that doesn't require a clean shave every day. Mind you, if I spruced up my appearance, perhaps I might get noticed a bit too

I live in Goergia and keep a 2-3" beard year round. If I lived in the Artic like you it would be much longer. Think Warhammer Dwarf.

Oh trust me, I have sported a few beards... and I wear a goatee a lot of the time. The fact that I have a multi-colored beard it doesn't look that great. I have red, brown, blonde and black in it.

I have a door knocker. I guess most people would call that a "goatee", but I have a mustache and attached beard. Pretty easy to maintain with a Mach 3 since I don't have to worry about tights spaces anymore.

I got my brother this razor for xmas. He says it's great. Replacement razors are a steal.

This is the same one I bought when I first began as well. Excellent razor, nicely weighted and balanced.



For the comments about cutting yourself, I would say yes, you will probably nick yourself up a bit during your first few shaves because the way you shave with a safety razor or straight razor is a lot different from how you shave with a 5 bladed disposable. Check out the videos I linked to in an earlier post that show the best proces for shaving (strokes, angles of the blade, etc). It would be helpful to pick up a nick stick.

My beard is dark Red and my hair is light Brown.

Yeah I saw those they are called Styptic Pencils.

If I'm going to order a straight razor I will bite the bullet and order one of these sets. They include the razor which has been stropped and honed by a master shaver. A hanging strop. A badger hair brush. A stand for the brush. A lather mug. And some shaving soap. They also include a dvd telling how to use the razor, stropping, honing, plus some other stuff. The dvd is by the same guy that strops and hones the razor Lynn Abrams.

I wonder if you could just blow dry it after you're done. .

Theres a sign that you might be a bit of a tightwad, when you blow dry your razor every morning to get a couple extra uses out of it

All the ones they sell are hand made badger hair brushes. So even their lower priced ones are still very good.
