Re: Geektastic movies for 2010 - Rallick - 01-04-2012 Yeah I enjoyed Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Re: Geektastic movies for 2010 - Diggles - 01-04-2012 For a long time my D&D GM and friend said that he really liked Battle for LA and said it was the best war movie he'd ever seen, even better than Saving Private Ryan. I saw it and wasnt impressed, it lacked epicness and did very poorly in the action/special effects department. Re: Geektastic movies for 2010 - Zouji - 01-04-2012 Trolling DM is a troll. "Battle of Los Angeles" is the knockoff and is pretty lame. I think it was straight-to-DVD (I recall it being on Comcast On Demand for quite a while). "Battle: Los Angeles" is the one that was good. It wasn't amazing, but I liked it. Has Michelle Rodriguez in it, so look for that name when picking from Netflix or wherever to make sure you get the right one. Re: Geektastic movies for 2010 - Grieve - 01-04-2012 Yeah, I noticed that on Netflix and almost watched it before I did a double take. Re: Geektastic movies for 2010 - Slamz - 01-04-2012 Tucker & Dale vs Evil Netflix has it available for streaming right now. It's sort of....horror/comedy? I guess? I suppose the most direct comparison in terms of genre would be Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz. It takes a standard movie genre (Friday the 13th/Halloween/slasher type in this case), turns it on its head and comes up with some really hilarious scenes. (It's not a direct spoof like the Scary Movie films; it's just funny.) (Though actually I guess this is a 2010 film.) Re: Geektastic movies for 2010 - Grieve - 01-13-2012 Slamz Wrote:Did you see Super 8? I got it from Netflix having no idea what it was about and nearly turned it off about 10 minutes in as I assumed it was shaping up into kids-catch-crime-on-camera turned semi-action-drama or something and was amazed at the rather sudden direction the movie took.Just watched this, it was really good. Although JJ has watched ET and The Goonies (and Alien!) one too many times... Re: Geektastic movies for 2010 - Slamz - 01-16-2012 Netflix has TRON: Legacy on streaming now. I thought that was quite good. Incidentally, part of why I really love Netflix is the way they create these sub-categories and try to match them to you. I was browsing today and noticed they were displaying a row for me called "Witty Mad-Scientist TV Shows". You can't get much better than that. (It was a sadly thin category but I think we can all agree this is the fault of Hollywood, not Netflix.) Re: Geektastic movies for 2010 - Zouji - 02-09-2012 Space Nazis from the Dark Side of the moon! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py_IndUbcxc&hd=1 Need I say more? Re: Geektastic movies for 2010 - Kakarat - 02-23-2012 Like superhero movies? 'Defendor'... He is like Batman in a way. And it has Woody Harrelson in it. |
